PITTSBURGH (AP) — The high occupancy vehicle lanes that bring commuters into Pittsburgh on Interstate 279 north of the city have been closed because of icy conditions.
State police say freezing temperatures and light precipitation overnight combined to create black ice that led to at least one crash Friday morning.
The gated HOV lanes are open to inbound commuters during the morning rush hour and to outbound commuters during the afternoon rush hour.
Temperatures were expected to climb into the high 40s later Friday in Pittsburgh, so officials expect the lanes to be open for the afternoon rush hour.
Police have released little information about the crash that prompted them to close the lanes.
