"It's a labor of love for four generations of Zambelli's," said Dr. George Zambelli, Jr. Zambelli is talking about Zambelli Fireworks Internationale, his family's fireworks company in New Castle.  The century-old company is receiving some national spotlight for the upcoming holiday weekend.  The National Geographic Channel is featuring the company on its 'Naked Science' documentary show, titling the episode, 'Secret World of Fireworks.'

"They wanted to produce a definitive documentary on the science and execution of modern fireworks and who better to do that then the Zambelli's?" Zambelli said.

The documentary will focus on how fireworks are fired and what they're made of.  Zambelli gives more than 2,000 displays a year all over the world, and Fourth of July week alone, that number hits nearly 800.  Throughout all shows, the key component is safety.  "Safety is paramount, in each and every one of our employees.  Each day, the one thing that's on our mind is safety, not only for themselves but for spectators."

This year, spectators can expect a few changes.  "They're going to see a lot more brilliant blues and purples and new pattern shells, so it's going to be an interesting Fourth," Zambelli said.

Zambelli will hold a fireworks festival in downtown New Castle next Saturday July 11, running from 3 to 11pm.
