Warren Police Officer Doug Hipple will soon be a Top Cop recipient.

Hipple was one of 10 cops picked from hundreds of nominations nationwide. The award is sponsored by the National Association of Police Organizations.

He was nominated after running into a burning Bonnie Brae Avenue home in an attempt to rescue three mentally challenged women inside in April 2009. One of the women died, and two were injured. Hipple himself spent more than a month in the hospital with his own injuries.

The fire was intentionally set, but there have been no arrests.

Officer Hipple will receive the award during a ceremony in Washington, D.C., in May.
