The city of Warren is looking at a budget deficit for next year, but it's no where close to what was anticipated at one point.
Mayor Mike O'Brien said he expects the budget deficit to be $692,000. At one point, officials were guessing the deficit would come in at over $2 million. But city officials said concessions from the labor unions and not replacing workers who retired helped save the city money.
O'Brien said from 2006 through 2010, the city has an estimated $4.5 million less in income tax collections to manage the city with in a shrinking economy. The city is continuing to try and operate efficiently with less money, he said.
O'Brien said meetings with the city's unions will soon be held. And the city's looking for new agreements on health care to help save even more money.
