People around the country will take time Wednesday to remember our nation's veterans on Veterans Day.  Here in the Valley, many are doing the same.

At Youngstown State University, Valley veterans, school officials, and community leaders gathered on campus Tuesday for a special service at YSU's Veterans Plaza. The names of YSU students who've died while on active military duty were read.

And in Deerfield Township, a new monument is in place just in time for Veterans Day. The monument, in the town circle off Route 224, replaces an original that dated back to 1870. That monument honored 86 soldiers from the community who fought in the Civil War. It had been damaged by several car accidents over the years. Insurance money covered the cost of a replacement.

Larry Conti from Youngstown Memorials describes the new monument. "It's limestone and marble. The top piece is marble, and there's limestone in the base, and it took about six months to make it."

Once the pedestal pieces are secured for the 15 1/2 ton obelisk, workers will place the original eagle from the very first monument at the top.
