Colton Lockner is only 12 years-old, but 2009 marks the fourth year the Lake Milton resident has organized an "America Supports You Freedom Walk". "It feels great that I help people remember their loved ones and remember the veterans," said Lockner.
This 1.5 mile walk is one of many taking part nationwide, honoring those who lost their lives on September 11, and also military veterans. "I think it's just great. I think it's great that everybody pulls together to not forget what happened," said Colton's mother, Robyn. Colton, who is currently in seventh grade, says he organizes the walk to let other people know they're being thought of. "They think that people really do care for them and it makes them really happy," said Colton.
The dozens that came to the walk even included the woman that started it. Allison Barber came to Lake Milton from Washington D.C. She founded the walk after actually working for the Penatgon on September 11, 2001. "When I look at somebody like Colton and I think we have great hope for our country, because here's a young man who understands tradition, patriotism and honoring our military members," Barber said.
When asked how long he continues to hold these freedom walks, Colton didn't have an exact answer, but he doesn't plan to stop anytime soon. "I'm hoping a very long time," Colton said.
