It's been nearly a month since Jim Traficant publicized a partnership with the ITANA Indian Nation to bring a casino to the Valley. Now the former congressman says plans are expanding.

"I never fully went into the venture, because I wanted to see where everything was," Traficant said at a meeting Wednesday.

What was originally proposed as just a casino, has now morphed into a full-fledged entertainment complex, complete with a 100-room hotel, horse racetrack and even a theme park. Traficant has formed a new partnership with local businessman Jack Bartko, who heads a group already interested in bringing a theme park to the area.

"With what Jim has on board, I think we have a better shot at it now," said Bartko, President of Epic. "And, of course, it's going to bring jobs to the area."

About 2,500 jobs could be created, but Traficant acknowledged that challenges lie ahead. He pleaded with those listening to get as much Native American support behind the project as possible and also says raising money will be an issue for the $150-million project.

"Funding is not going to be easy, but we expect to make it happen," said Traficant.

The former congressman said a site for the compound has been chosen.

"This project will have the strongest, most economically viable site in the entire midwestern United States," he said.

No further specifics were released. Officials from ITANA are expected to tour the location within a month.
