The fate of Case Avenue Elementary in Sharon is still very much up in the air."We've had a number of options we have an aging Elementary School. It's getting to the point where we're either going to have to put a lot of money into it and repair it or go in a different direction," said Sharon Superintendent John Sarandrea. It was a packed meeting with more than 75 people in attendance....waiting on a decision. However, the school board voted 7 to 2 to table the issue. They're trying to decide whether to tear down the building and rebuild on the current site. OR buy the former Hadley Elementary building on Boyd Drive, renovate and add on. There are benefits and drawbacks for both options. For example, building on the school's original footprint could mean congestion and distraction for students. But, the old Hadley school is on the border of Hermitage, meaning most kids would have farther to walk to get to school. Sharon School Board's decision to table the vote received mix reaction from those in attendance."The city is so financially strapped, that this whole proposal to spend this kind of money is just ridiculous, it's ludicrous. I'm thrilled they tabled the motion," said Sharon resident Lisa Koss.Kristy Bestwick a teacher in the Sharon School District wanted the board to come to a decision. "I don't feel that most people are aware that the students and teachers sitting in those classrooms are at risk on a daily basis because the ceilings are falling in on the classrooms and the pipes have literally exploded," said Bestwick. At this point there's no meeting set to discuss the matter further.
