Expired prescription drugs can pose a danger to both people and the environment. Here's your chance to clean out the medicine chest and get rid of old prescriptions safely.

Two drop off dates are planned as part of Operation Medicine Cabinet. The first is Saturday, Oct. 3 from 9am to 12 noon at Grace Fellowship Church on Niles Cortland Rd. in Howland next to the Super Kmart and Kohls. The second will be Saturday, Oct. 10 from 9am to 12 noon at the Boardman Administration Building on Market St. in Boardman.

Organizers say for safety reasons it's important to get old medicine out of the house, so small children and others don't get into it. They're also working to keep old drugs from contaminating the water system, which can happen if they're simply thrown away. The Trumbull County Sheriff's Department will properly dispose of the items collected.
