The brother of local boxer Kelly Pavlik was arraigned Wednesday on charges of domestic violence and abduction.
According to police reports, Michael Pavlik Jr., 33, allegedly assaulted his fiance Friday and Saturday. The victim told police he punched her, through her into a coffee table and threatened to kill both her and himself during the alleged incident. She told police she was afraid to leave the house.
The charges could mean up to six years in jail.
Pavlik's attorney says his client is innocent.
"Michael denies each and every aspect of this," said Pavlik's attorney, Ben Joltin. "We fully believe that when the facts do come out, Michael will be exonerated from this."
Youngstown Prosecutor Jay Macejko said he's confident the matter will proceed to trial.
"We felt that after reviewing the evidence in this case, which was substantial, that we definitely had enough to go forward with the initial charges that we did file," Macejko said. "It could result in a guilty verdict."
Pavlik's bond was set at $50,000. The case has been bound over to a grand jury.
