On any given morning, 40 to 50 people who regularly attend the early Mass at St. Dominic's Church in Youngstown would pray with Angeline Fimognari each day.
Wednesday, they and many more came together to pray for her.
It was clearly a larger-than-usual crowd for the daily 8 a.m. Mass, some lighting candles, others praying silently to themselves. Among them were Mayor Jay Williams and Youngstown Bishop George Murry, who said he wanted to be with those grieving the loss of Fimognari, who was murdered outside the church Saturday morning.
Murry helped celebrate the Mass, offering the homily and reminding the community not to let its sorrow for Angeline turn to bitterness.
Several hours after the mass, there was another gathering at the church, this time a small group of local clergy who take what they call "prayer walks" each week around the community.
And while police continue searching for clues that might lead to Angeline's killer, the church's pastor insisted other parishioners are united in not letting what happened Saturday scare them away.
After the Mass, Murry said he's praying whoever's responsible for Angeline's murder will come forward and turn himself in, admit what he's done and apologize.
Police continue searching for clues. A $10,000 reward is still being offered to anyone who can help solve Angeline's murder. Anyone who might have information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 330-746-CLUE.
