A lottery scam using the Better Business Bureau name is floating into e-mail boxes across America.

The phony e-mail tells recipient they've won a large sum of money, but they have to send some cash for fees or taxes to get the larger amount.

Some of the e-mails went as far as using real names of BBB employees, even sending bios from the organization's website.

A woman in Niles nearly got scammed, but she wisely called the BBB to check it out first.

"This is a scam," said the BBB's Melissa Ames. "We have never met any individual who has won this type of money. If you're going to play the lottery, you're going to play the lottery with something like the Ohio Lottery, which is sanctioned by the state of Ohio where you actually buy a ticket."

There's a claim that one person has lost $80,000 in this scam.

To avoid being scammed, remember to use good judgment. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
