New Castle Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

A Lawrence County soldier, serving in Afghanistan, has been killed.

According to the military, Staff Sergeant Edward D. Mills, Junior, died while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom.  The soldier, who was 29-years-old, was originally from New Castle. 

The Department of Defense said Staff Sgt. Mills, Jr. was one of six soldiers killed from wounds following an attack in the Kandahar province on Thursday.  Sgt. Mills was a member of the Army's 101st Airborne Ranger Pathfinders and was on his third tour of duty in the Middle East.  He was a 2000 graduate of Union High School.
