McDonald's restaurants around the country are sporting a new, updated look these days.

One of the first in this area to get the makeover is the store at Midlothian Boulevard and South Avenue in Youngstown. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Thursday morning featuring students from the Eagle Christian School, as well as city leaders and executives with the local franchise.

The $500,000 renovation included new energy-efficient equipment in the kitchen area, as well as a redesigned dining area with LED-screen televisions and seats made from recycled glass Coca-Cola bottles. It also features a dual drive-through to help make service faster.

Franchisee Herb Washington said similar makeovers are planned for more of his 21 locations in northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania.
