Local police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are looking into a late morning bank robbery at a PNC Bank branch in Sharpsville Wednesday.

Police said just after 11 a.m., a man wearing a mask entered the bank, showed a weapon and demanded money. He then fled the scene on foot heading toward the Shenango River with an undetermined amount of cash. Witnesses said the man lost his hat on the sidewalk in front of the bank.

Police are looking into the possibility that the robbery is related to ones in recent days in Girard and Weathersfield Township. In all the cases, the suspect had a similar description.

Tuesday, a man wielding a knife entered the Huntington Bank in Girard and demanded money. As in the Sharpsville case, he also fled the scene on foot.

Sunday, a man robbed a Walgreeens store in Weathersfield.

There are similar descriptions in as many as five robberies: a white male, with a medium build, between 5 feet, 4 inches and 5 feet, 6 inches tall.

Police have not determined whether the incidents are related.

They are asking anyone with information to call their local police department or the FBI.
