Blink, a year old sheppard mix, was found last week on the side of a road in Bristolville, severely injured. In fact, his injuries were so bad, an officer with the Animal Welfare League thought he may not survive.
"The side of his head was tremendously swollen, his eye covered, bulging out, icicles were hanging from the bottom of his chin," said Paula Humphrey, an officer with the Animal Welfare League. Humphrey says she is not sure exactly what happened to the dog they named Blink, but say either he was struck on the head with a hard object, like a shovel, or he was hit by a car. Humphrey says she scooped the dog up, and took him to Town and Country Veterinary Hospital in Howland. He is expected to make a full recovery.
Dr. Sam Costello, who works at Town and Country Veterinary Hospital, says Blink's eye will most likely need to be removed but before he does that he would like the dog to put on more weight.
Costello and Humphrey say Blink must have been someone's pet at one time, because he is very social. However, they were unable to find his owners.
What Blink needs now, is someone willing to love and nurse him back to health. "A good home, after what he has been through, he deserves a wonderful home," Humphrey said.
Anyone interested in adopting Blink is asked to call the Animal Welfare League at (330) 394-4122.
