The man who held up a Girard bank with a knife Tuesday is the same suspect in other robberies in the city and Weathersfield, police confirmed.

According to police, the man walked into Huntington Bank on East Liberty Street about 1 p.m. Tuesday. He was carrying what appeared to be a steak knife, demanded an unknown amount of cash and fled on foot.

A resulting manhunt forced St. Rose School to lock down for at least an hour.

About 1 p.m. Sunday, police said a man in his late 30s or early 40s with a thin build and who was about 5 feet, 6 inches tall robbed Walgreens at knifepoint in Weathersfield. The man was wearing a Steelers bandanna, a black T-shirt and black shorts. The man's image was caught on surveillance video.

"This type of character doing a daytime robbery with a number of people in the store is pretty brazen," Weathersfield Police Chief Joe Consiglio said of the Walgreens robbery. "It is kind of scary, and we would like to get him off the street as soon as possible."

Girard police also said he may be the same suspect wanted in similar crimes, including the attempted robbery of an IGA Saturday in the Girard area.

Witnesses in Tuesday's robbery at Huntington Bank described the suspect as a white male wearing a green hoodie and dark pants. Anyone with information on that robbery should contact Girard police or the FBI.

Anyone with information on the Walgreen's robbery or the man in the surveillance image above is asked to contact the Niles or Weathersfield police departments.
