Dr. Micah Baird said the first time he saw 4-year-old Luke Holko he couldn't move without help.

Now the doctor said the boy can lift his head and move his limbs. During a meeting with reporters in Akron Tuesday, the doctor called Luke "an inspiration to our staff—and to me."

Back in early September, Luke suffered a fractured skull when he was hit in the back of the head by a line-drive at a Scrappers baseball game.

While doctors say he has made steady progress, his recovery is still far from complete: "Unfortunately, he is still not talking very much."

But, he's doing well enough that he and his parents were able to leave a 24-7 hospital environment two weeks ago—and move in with relatives.  His mom, Nicole says that first night back in familiar surroundings, he had a smile on his face and you knew he was where he wanted to be.

Nicole and Luke commute back-and-forth to Akron Children's five days a week for intensive rehab therapy.  While she's his biggest cheerleader, she said its not always easy.

"I haven't heard my son speak in two and a half months and its hard," she said.

But both Nicole and Doctor Baird say they feel confident Luke will continue to make progress, even though it is unknown how long his recovery will take.

The Holkos say they remain grateful for all the prayers and support they've received and they are thankful their little boy is finally home with them and getting better.
