A little bit of history will be on display tomorrow at East Palestine City Park. A US Army Convoy will make a stop for lunch there. The Military Vehicle Preservation Association is retracing the route of a military convoy that went from Washington DC to San Francisco in 1919. The original run was to test transporting military vehicles from the East coast to the West coast. About 150 historic military vehicles are expected tomorrow. East Palestine was also a stop on the original convoy.
Don Elzer is the President of the East Palestine Area Chamber. He tells us, "In 1919 East Palestine was sort of the center of the auto industry and the rubber industry. The original tour was put together to promote the new cars that were available. And they stopped here in the park for an overnight stay."
The convoy is expected to arrive in East Palestine about noon, have lunch, and head back on the road at 2:00PM.
