Hermitage evangelist Bill Rudge has gone to Haiti five separate times.
"You just can not imagine, their daily activity is to obtain enough food just for themselves and their children to survive that day," said Rudge.
He shared some of the images from Port Au Prince and surrounding areas with us that he captured while in Haiti. He said that even prior to the earthquake, many of the people that he encountered struggled to live day-to-day.
"I've seen too many of them on the streets of Port Au Prince and other places with them starving to death," said Rudge. "With their children, wanting to give them up for adoption because they couldn't provide food for them, and now the earthquake has just intensified that."
Many people had little or no shelter, living in shacks or grass huts before this latest tragedy. He said it has been tough to see some of the images that have come out of the country in recent days. Rudge has heard mostly bad news from people he met during his trips there.
"One pastor we just got an e-mail from, he's got two cousins dead," said Rudge. "He's got two sisters and one brother severely injured, and he's got one sister missing. We have other reports of people involved with ministry that they just have had no word."
He is encouraging people to help if they can. He said groups like the American Red Cross and Mission Possible do legitimate work in the country.
