What started out as a simple conversation with a friend about troops in Iraq getting lonely and homesick around the holidays has turned into a full-fledged mission to send Valentine's cards to troops overseas.

The idea, which has been dubbed, "Hearts for Heroes," has made its way into local schools, churches and nursing homes.

This weekend, seniors at Park Vista Assisted Living in Youngstown got in on the action. They spent part of their Sunday making cards for airmen and women serving in Iraq.

Nancy Cuffle, the founder of the cause, is asking everyone to take a moment out of their day to show appreciation and love for our troops overseas this Valentine's Day.

"It doesn't matter if it's a Valentine card, a Thinking of You type card, make your own card, buy one, send one, send as many as you want and they'll be greatly appreciated," Cuffle added.

If you'd like to participate, you can drop off cards to the Home Savings & Loan at Youngstown State University or to the Main Branch on Federal Street by Tuesday and they will mail them for you for free -- no postage necessary!

Address the cards as followed:
Ch. Maj Christine Blice-Baum
447 AEG HCAPO
AE 09321

If Tuesday's too soon, you can still mail your own card by Friday. So far, hundreds of cards have been collected for the airmen.
