One group is hoping to introduce a new way of eating to millions of Americans.
Sunday was the Great American Meatout across the country.
Evergreen Seventh Day Adventist Church sponsored the Valley's meatout.
Those who attended ate a complete vegan meal of pasta shells stuffed with tofu, salad and green beans.
Leaders say living a vegan lifestyle isn't only good for your health, but it's good for the planet as well.
"We want to introduce veganism to people because the consumption of animal source foods has a devastating effect on the environment," said vegan Sandy Hrabowy. "For instance, animals eat more food than they produce, which, because of this it contributes to world hunger. We could be feeding more food to people rather than animals."
After the dinner was over, the group also held vegan cooking classes hoping to show that cooking vegan food isn't as hard as people think it is.
