The Ohio State Fire Marshal announced Friday that there was only one firework-related incident in the Mahoning Valley over last week's Fourth of July Weekend.

The Fire Marshal's office reported that a house fire in Girard was caused by improper disposal of fireworks. On July 2, the occupant of a home at 2541 Chestnut St. in Girard was igniting fireworks in his yard and disposed of them in a plastic garbage can. A neighbor noticed a fire spreading up the west side of the home and into the attic just after 11 p.m.

The neighbor woke the occupant who helped his fiance and son out of the home. The occupant cooperated with investigators and no charges are expected to be filed.

This incident was one of 12 fireworks investigations by the Fire Marshal last weekend. Four people were injured, more than 2,000 pounds of fireworks were seized and there was an additional house fire reported in the state over the holiday weekend.
