The Covelli Centre in Youngstown was rockin' Wednesday night with a former American Idol star.

Chris Daughtry and his band performed before a near sellout crowd. The band from North Carolina is in the middle of a 36 city tour promoting its new album.

Daughtry competed on the fifth season of American Idol in 2006. He was the fourth-place finalist, being outvoted by third place finisher, Elliott Yamin; second place finalist, Katherine McPhee; and the eventual winner, Taylor Hicks. Also in the top twelve that season were country stars Kellie Pickler, who finished in sixth, and Bucky Covington, who came in eighth.

After Chris Daughtry was eliminated from American Idol, he was offered a record deal by RCA Records. His debut album became the fastest selling debut rock album in history, selling more than 1 million copies in its first 5 weeks. That album eventually went on to reach number one on the Billboard charts. Daughtry is the most successful contestant, in terms of record sales, from the season in which he competed and is the third most successful Idol contestant overall. Carrie Underwood leads the elite field, while Kelly Clarkson comes in second. Both of those stars won the Idol title in the years they competed, making Daughtry the most successful non-winner or non-runner up ever to compete on the show.

Daughtry's new album titled "Leave This Town" has already sold more than half a million copies in just five weeks.
