Sunday is Flag Day, and President Barack Obama says Americans should display their pride in Old Glory by flying it wherever possible. One local community is doing just that. Bessemer Pennsylvania held a ceremony, and raised a new flag in town square.
It was bout two months ago that the Bessemer beautification Committee decided it was time to give a facelift to the area around the boroughs flagpole. But there was a problem, someone had taken the town's flag.
Robin Kirkwood heads up the committee, "Noticed of course that the flag was missing. And said we've got to do something. A town with out a flag is unacceptable. So we started with renovating the garden, and then I made one mention to another committee member and said hey, lets do National Flag Day."
So after countless hours of work, a few coats of paint on the flagpole itself, Bessemer was ready to raise a New flag, doing so on Flag Day.
One final fitting tribute to the new garden where the flag flies, town square in Bessemer has been renamed Old Glory Square.
