The Mahoning County Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board has been involved in Access to Recovery for two years.
Wednesday they shared some of the successes of the federal grant initiative. So far, 436 people in Mahoning County have benefited from the grant.
The program helps provide services to people that are returning home after being jailed. Angela Cornelius Dawson of the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services, said the hope is to keep those people from re-entering the criminal justice system.
"When individuals leave incarceration, we are trying to provide to them the kind of support that allows them to come home to stay, rather than come home for a visit," Cornelius Dawson said.
Mahoning County partners with three other northeast Ohio counties and the state to administer the services. The county has applied another round of funding, and should know whether it will be awarded in September.
