Having a Youngstown connection in the position of federal Car Czar appears to have helped the Delphi salaried retirees to at least get a meeting.

No promises have been made and there are no guarantees, but the salaried retirees will meet with former Youngstown mayor Jay Williams on Friday.

Williams confirmed Tuesday night that he will meet with the Delphi salaried retirees Friday at 10 a.m. at the Warren office of Congressman Tim Ryan. Retiree spokesman Bruce Gump said he hopes they'll be able to resolve the issues.

After Delphi emerged from bankruptcy in 2009, the salaried retirees had their pensions cut by an average of 50 percent and had their health and life insurance eliminated by the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. There are 1,500 Delphi salaried retirees around Youngstown.

The retirees are currently suing to have the benefits restored and the case is making its way through federal court.
