The Pioneer Trails Tree Farm in Poland cuts down hundreds of trees every year for families across the Valley during Christmas time.
But during this particular week, the trees they're cutting down will go much further than the Valley. Through Operation Evergreen, the farm will harvest Christmas trees to be sent to service people overseas.
It's a joint project between Ohio and Indiana tree growers, but organizers said the majority of the trees come from Ohio. About 300 will be sent to the soldiers, and about 20 of those will come from Pioneer Trails Tree Farm.
Pioneer Trails started Operation Evergreen over 12 years ago with only two trees, and they said they feel fortunate that they can now send more trees and brighten up the holiday season for even more soldiers.
And Army veteran Ed Rigelsky, who's helping to ship the trees over at Pioneer Trails, said he knows firsthand what the soldiers go through during the holiday season.
"I've been on the other side and I would enjoy getting a tree," Rigelsky said.
The trees will leave the Pioneer Trail Tree Farm Monday, and shortly after, they'll be shipped to Iraq and Afghanistan.
It won't be long before we'll begin to see beautifully decorated Christmas trees in homes across the Valley.
