Pennsylvania's Harness Racing Commission is giving developers of a "racino" project in Lawrence County a little more time to look for prospective buyers.
The Indiana-based Centaur Racing now has until Oct. 5 to show it has bidders interested in the company's planned auction of its project in Mahoning Township. Centaur purchased a 250-acre site off of State Route 422 two years ago, but has had trouble securing needed financing for the project .
Centaur filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this year. Last month, the company announced it would try to sell the project to interested investors as a way to keep it alive.
The October date would be the day after a court-ordered deadline for prospective bidders to file their intentions as part of Centaur's bankruptcy case.
State Rep. Chris Sainato of New Castle said if there are interested bidders in the project, the racing license would be extended through the end of the year. This would allow a new owner time to negotiate with the Pennsylvania State Harness Racing Commission, he said.
Sainato said if there are no bidders, the license would be put out to bid.
