Centaur Gaming has asked the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission for an extension to build a racetrack and casino in Lawrence County.
In a statement released Wednesday, Centaur officials said they have a "tremendous level of commitment toward the project."
They plan to pursue every avenue possible to ensure that Valley View Downs is built. The developer hasn't yet been able to secure the financing.
The Indianapolis-based company had hoped to open a casino and racetrack on the site in western Pennsylvania, but last fall it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Centaur LLC said it planned to continue to pursue the launch of Valley View Downs & Casino, which they said would initially create more than 1,500 construction jobs and eventually 1,000 full and part-time property jobs.
Chief Financial Officer Kurt Wilson had said the company hopes that restructuring its debt will hasten progress on the Valley View property. Centaur has a license to operate a harness racing license at the 250 acre site, 55 miles northwest of Pittsburgh at U.S. 422 and S.R. 551.
But its financing for the $400 million-plus project fell through last year, and the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board doesn't want to issue a slot-machine gambling license unless Centaur has the money to build it.
