Castlo Industrial Park has been in the community for more than 30 years, but until recently, it's attracted heavy industry in the area. Now, it's looking to change that to become more environmentally friendly.
One group is re-using products and converting coal waste into fuel for their own building. Green Space owner Matt Schimley said he is excited their hard work is about to pay off.
"We've been at this for about a year now," he said. "We are very excited to get started."
Mike Hoza, interim executive director of Castlo, said it's important for them be more environmentally friendly.
"This is a first for us," Hoza said. "They approached us to have approximately five acres. They are going to build a state-of-the-art building."
During a luncheon and facility tour Thursday, locals heard about the plans to bring in new industry and some businesses about to break ground. Hoza said the economic downfall has changed the way Castlo tries attracting businesses.
"While a lot of places are laying people off, Castlo is geared toward essentially manufacturing jobs," he said.
For 30 years, Castlo has focused on bringing heavy industry to Youngstown. These days, Castlo is happy to bring more green businesses into the Mahoning Valley.
