A 15-year-old Newton Falls boy has been arrested on a felony gun possession charge after police said he left a loaded weapon at a bus stop.

The gun was found Monday afternoon in the shrubbery in front of the Church of God on West Broad Street.

Police learned that the gun had been left there after another student notified the high school principal. Police said they were extremely concerned because there is a day care facility housed inside the church.

The boy allegedly took the gun from his parents' house, but police said they do not know why he left it at the bus stop. They said if students have problems, they are encouraged to go to a teacher or another adult.

"There are other ways," said Police Chief John Kuivila. "They have the ability to go to the principal, our school resource officer, or guidance counselors, etc."

The boy has been released to his parents and is expected to appear in juvenile court sometime in the next few weeks.
