An early morning fire at an apartment complex in Boardman forced two families from their homes.

Fire crews from both Boardman and Poland townships were called to an apartment building in the 400 block of Matthews Road around 1:30 a.m. Friday. A resident said she smelled smoke and ran next door to alert her neighbors.

Everyone inside made it out safely. The two families affected by the blaze are staying with relatives.

The fire is said to have started inside the dividing wall between two apartments.

At this time, the cause is believed to be electrical, but the investigation is still on-going.
