A Saturday night fire that broke out at the home of a laid-off Warren firefighter has been ruled accidental.

The fire happened about 8 p.m. at 1141 Central Parkway Avenue S.E., owned by firefighter Jeremy Rodgers. While the cause of the fire is still undetermined, investigators with the Division of State Fire Marshal said it was not intentional.

The fire started on the porch of the home, said a release from the division, and several items, including a plastic dog kennel, lawn chairs and a mechanical children's swing allowed the fire to spread quickly up the side of and inside the home.

Damages were estimated at about $40,000.

The release said investigators will conduct additional interviews before the investigation is complete.
