Most of the people in one south side neighborhood knew Shelton Harris. They say you could always find him riding his bike.
But Monday morning the 56 year old fell victim to a hit and run accident. Just after ten, witnesses say two cars sped around the corner of Hudson and Almyra Avenue. Then the driver of an oldsmobile allegedly lost control of his vehicle slamming into Harris on his bike.
Detective Sergeant Patty Garcar says, "Once the first vehicle struck the pedestrian, bicyclist he landed on top of the car. They continued on Hudson till the individual fell off the car."
Investigators say the driver and his passenger took off on foot, leaving the car and Harris on the sidewalk.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Now the police are looking for those suspects, as well as the driver of a purple Monte Carlo, the second car they believe was racing down Hudson.
Neighbors say it's not unusual to find kids playing on these sidewalks, or find people on their bicycles. But its also not unusual to find cars speeding up and down this residential neighborhood, so they're not surprised this scene unfolded right in their front yards.
Neighbor Teresa West says, "Pretty dangerous far as cars go. I mean zooming up and down the street. Just zooming. I mean it's crazy."
If you have any information regarding this accident, you're asked to call the Youngstown Police Department.
