The Austintown Fire Department showed off its newest piece of equipment Monday night.

The new truck will be placed in service for use by the full-time squad at the Mahoning Avenue or Wickliffe Circle Station. The truck will reduce annual maintenance costs for the department by about $15,000 this year. The current pumper truck will relocate to the South Raccoon Station for use by the part-time squad responding to structure fires from home.

The fire department brought its new pumper truck to the trustees meeting. The truck, which can hold 750 gallons of water, replaces a 1978 truck taken out of service when cab supports rusted away. The truck cost $285,000, most of which was paid for by a federal grant.
