The Knights of Columbus hosted a spaghetti benefit today for an Austintown man suffering from disfiguring tumor growths.
Ed Port suffers from Neurofibromatosis, or N-F. He's already undergone about 20 surgeries for his condition. The tumors have caused him to lose part of his sight and hearing. Since medical insurance companies consider his surgery cosmetic, the only way for him to pay for corrective surgery is through the help of others.
Ed says he is touched by all of the support, "It's a wonderful feeling that this many people in the valley really care about my situation and helping raise funds so I can get my surgeries done."
Ed says his surgery will cost about $200,000. He says he looks forward to getting the operations he needs, so that he can lead a normal life and help other people with N-F.
