For the past few years, Wolf Creek Equestrian Centre has been training and caring for horses and riders, getting them ready to show and compete on the local and national levels.

"I placed second in the Area Adult Equitation Battle down in Florida, which was really, really big," says Neal McCall, horse rider.

"You start with riding them, making sure they're ridden, and they're able and capable of doing what you're going to ask them to do at the show," explains Cheryl Fossesca, Barn Manager at Wolf Creek Equestrian Centre.

You might remember the site in North Jackson has come back from a horrible barn fire in 2006, which killed five horses.  New owners re-built the stables and opened Wolf Creek with a few old friends.

"Candy, the pony here, was here during the fire, and did just fine, survived, and she's been here for about 16 years at this site," says Fossesca.

All the hard work and preparation will pay off when six of the horses from Wolf Creek Equestrian Centre compete in a hunter show at nearby Buckeye Horse Park this Saturday.

Now it's a quick clip, brush, and shave-- for the horses, not the riders.  Hunters like Neal make sure the horses can handle the two to three foot jumps, which they'll be judged on at the show.

The stabling and entry fees are a major fundraiser for Buckeye Horse Park, but as always, it won't cost you and your family a dime to watch the action, or walk the trails.  Fossesca says, "All of the activities at the horse park at this moment in time, are free to the public."  So a whole new generation of horse-lovers can see what it takes to climb into the saddle.

If you'd like to watch the action this weekend, head out to Route 224.  The Buckeye Horse Park is between Canfield and Ellsworth and the show starts at 9am.  Once again, admission is free.
