An annual fundraiser that pays tribute to a young family killed in 2005 was held this weekend.

On Saturday, a spaghetti dinner was held at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall on West Wilson Avenue in Girard.  The dinner is held in the memory of Lena Cross and her children, Mason and Christian.

Lena was killed in 2005.  Her family said a fire was set to her home to cover it. The two kids died in the blaze.

All proceeds from the fundraiser benefit children in the community.

"Last year we were able to give over slightly 400 bookbags away and then for Christmas I bought for 23 children," explained Cindy Michael, the event coordinator as well as Mason and Christian's grandmother.

Michael said she wanted to turn a negative event into something positive.

This was the sixth year for the event.
