The Yankee Kitchen in Vienna is normally a busy place, especially around the breakfast hour, but this weekend, since it is located close to the Air Reserve Base, restaurant officials are anticipating a packed house.
"Extra staff on board, extra food," said Louie Raptis of the Yankee Kitchen. "It's good for the area, good for business around here."
"We had a huge response in the first minute on the web," said Megan Tomkins, public affairs at the 910th Airlift Wing. "We had 255,000 people respond at the same time so our website shut down, and we had to get it back up really quick." Air Force officials say they have received calls from people, from all over, interested in coming to the event.
Local hotels are also booked. "We have people calling for rooms," said Kim Armstrong of the Avalon Inn. We got 10 just since I got here."
Trumbull County officials say they are extremely pleased the air show is being held here, saying it will give the area a much needed boost. The air show will be held Saturday and Sunday and 40,000 people are expected to attend each day.
This is the first time in 23 years the Thunderbirds are going to fly over the area.
