Two Warren men are in the Trumbull County Jail on drug charges after police said they found heroin and codeine in their vehicle during a traffic stop Thursday morning in Braceville.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2011 Dodge Charger was stopped on State Route 5 at Ravenna-Warren Road for following another vehicle too closely. Troopers said suspicious behavior led them to perform a consensual pat-down of the driver, and they found drug paraphernalia and drug residue on him.

A probable cause search revealed two large bottles of Promethazine with codeine and nearly 43 grams of heroin, worth more than $5,000. Promethazine is an antihistamine.

The driver, Neal Mackey, 44, and his passenger, James W. Chapman Jr., 23, were charged with possession of heroin, a second-degree felony, and possession of codeine, a fifth-degree felony. Both men are due back in court Feb. 9 for a preliminary hearing.
