Mount Union Hosts W&J in NCAA First Round

Top ranked Mount Union hosts No. 20 Washington & Jefferson (PA) in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Football Playoffs at noon at Mount Union Stadium in Alliance on Saturday, November 21st.

Mount Union earned an automatic bid into the 32-team tournament by winning its 18th straight Ohio Athletic Conference championship.  The Purple Raiders just completed their fourth straight undefeated regular season and have the nation's longest current win streak at 25 games.

Mount Union is making its 21st playoff appearance and holds a 61-10 record in the NCAA Playoffs and the defending National Champions have won a record 10 National Championships since 1993.

Washington & Jefferson went 9-1 in the regular season, finished second in the Presidents Athletic Conference and earned one of six national at-large bids to the NCAA Playoffs.

The Presidents are located in Washington, PA (30 miles west Pittsburgh) and are coached by former Mount Union wide receiver and assistant coach Mike Sirianni.  Sirianni was a player on the Raiders first National Championship team in 1993 and was an assistant on the 1996 and 1997 National Championship teams. 

He has a 70-11 record as head coach at W&J and has led them to now their seventh straight postseason appearance.  A year ago, the Presidents went 11-2 and advanced to the national quarterfinals.

Tickets for Saturday's game are $8 and every seat in Mount Union Stadium is a reserved seat.  Details on advance ticket sales will be available soon.

The game will be broadcast LIVE on the radio on WRMU 91.1 FM and WDPN AM1310.
Also the game will on television (tape delay) locally on WIVM TV 52 in Canton and on regional cable network SportsTime Ohio with information coming later this week.
