Big 22 - Class of 2009 Announced

After three months of high school football, and weeks of voting between fans, coaches and media, the Big 22 Class of 2009 has finally been announced.

The winners will be invited to our 4th annual Big 22 banquet on Dec. 16 at Antone's in Boardman. The Player of the Year will be announced at that banquet. The players, coaches and families affected will be contacted within the coming days. Here are your winners:

Big 22 - Class of 2009



Jon Ballard - QB Fitch
Falcons senior quarterback passed for 1,354 yards, rushed for 869 yards, and scored 26 total touchdowns this season. Ballard is a 3 year starter and averaged over 220 yards of total offense per game.

Derrick Burns - RB/LB Wilmington
Greyhounds senior carried the ball 70 times for 771 yards, caught 9 passes for 143 yards, and scored 15 total touchdowns. Burns also finished 2nd on the team in tackles with 45.

Adam Charles - QB Girard
Indians senior quarterback completed 111 of his 209 passes for 2,371 yards and 25 touchdowns this season. Charles also rushed for 253 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Nick Cupan - RB McDonald
Blue Devils senior tailback ran the ball 181 times for 1,272 yards this season. Cupan scored 29 touchdowns. He also recorded 68 tackles and 4 sacks on defense.

Dion Eilam - WR/DB Farrell
Steelers senior finished with 358 yards receiving, 303 yards rushing, 9 touchdowns on offense, and 3 touchdowns on special teams. Eilam also recorded 25 tackles and 2 interceptions on defense.

Ben Eisel - WR/DB Salem
Quakers senior led the All-American White Division in receiving with 951 yards and 9 touchdowns. Eisel also had 5 interceptions, 2 touchdowns on defense, and 4 touchdowns on special teams.

Te Elias - RB/LB Lakeview
Bulldogs senior tailback led the entire All-American conference with 1,486 yards rushing this season. Elias scored 24 total touchdowns. He also recorded 104 tackles and 3 sacks on defense.

Shane Ewing - QB Western Reserve
Blue Devils senior set a new school record with over 2,156 yards passing and 24 touchdowns this season. Ewing also ran the ball 116 times for 760 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Andre Givens - RB/LB Hubbard
Eagles senior ran the ball 159 times for 902 yards and scored 17 touchdowns. Givens also caught 16 passes for 235 yards and 3 touchdowns. He is verbally committed to Pitt.

Chase Hammond - WR Boardman
Spartans senior wideout caught 55 passes for 983 yards this season. Hammond also scored 4 touchdowns.

Braylon Heard - RB/DB Mooney
Cardinals senior tailback ran the ball 130 times for 1,161 yards this season. Heard scored 17 total touchdowns. He also recorded 3 interceptions on defense.

Carter Hill - QB Crestview
Rebels junior quarterback completed 73 passes for 1,193 yards and 11 touchdowns. Hill also ran the ball 160 times for 1,064 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Allen Jones - RB Ursuline
Irish senior tailback carried the ball 158 times for 1,370 yards in just 9 games this season. Jones scored 16 touchdowns and averaged over 171 yards per game. He also recorded 15 tackles on defense.

Mike Mangiarelli - RB/DB Howland
Tigers senior tailback carried the ball 112 times for 941 yards, caught 9 passes for 174 yards, and scored 16 total touchdowns this season. Mangiarelli also had 3 interceptions on defense.

J.T. Moore - OT/DE Boardman
Spartans senior recorded 94 tackles, 9 of which were for a loss, and 5 sacks this season. Moore is verbally committed to Ohio State University.

Dan Odem  - QB/S Farrell
Steelers senior quarterback completed 37 passes for 650 yards, ran the ball 54 times for 277 yards, and scored 20 total touchdowns on offense. Odem also recorded 36 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 interception.

Darius Patton - WR/DB Poland
Bulldogs junior wideout caught 41 passes for 726 yards, ran the ball 16 times for 22 yards, and scored 7 total touchdowns. Patton also had 3 interceptions on defense, and 2 touchdowns on special teams.

Shane Peterson - QB/DB East Palestine
Bulldogs senior quarterback completed 55 passes for 917 yards, rushed 135 times for 1,001 yards, and scored 25 total touchdowns this season.

Matt Shelton - QB Hubbard
Eagles senior quarterback led the All-American White Division in passing this season. Shelton completed 88 of 167 passes for 1,717 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Trent Toothman - QB/LB Salem
Quakers junior quarterback passed for 1,661 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. Toothman also rushed for 952 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also had 51 tackles and 2 interceptions on defense.

Kyle Vaclav - RB/DB Canfield
Cardinals senior finished the regular season with 491 yards rushing, 119 yards receiving, 144 yards passing, and 11 total touchdowns. Vaclav also recorded 41 tackles and 4 interceptions on defense.

Luke Wollet - RB/S Poland
Bulldogs senior carried the ball 148 times for 798 yards, caught 6 passes for 87 yards, and scored and 14 touchdowns. Wollet also recorded 4 interceptions on defense, 1 returned for a touchdown.
