Mahoning county officials want to get on the same page when it comes to the drilling industry.

They formed the Mahoning County Shale Initiative Committee. The group met for the first time on Tuesday to share how they deal with the companies looking to drill the Marcellus and Utica shale in the area.

"It's our way again to be proactive and make sure that we get the accurate information out to our constituents. And also we wanted to discuss what we're doing independently within our own jobs and how we can work together collectively to ensure the protection and prosperity of Mahoning County," said Kathi Vrable-Bryan of the Mahoning County Shale Initiative Committee.

The group plans to meet on a regular basis to stay on top of the gas and oil boom in the county.

"We as public servants, we're obligated to make sure we give the most accurate and updated information to our constituents. So it's a way to work together proactively rather than reactively with the oil and gas industry activity in our county," Vrable-Bryan said.
