After an overwhelming amount of recent buzz, a second seminar on oil and gas leasing in the Marcellus and Utica shales is in the works.

Attorneys at Harrington, Hoppe and Mitchell scheduled a second meeting for 7 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Dutch Village Inn, 150 E. SR 14, Columbiana, following the previously announced seminar at 9 a.m. the same day. Firm member Alan D. Wenger said they hoped to accommodate 150 attendees, but received reservation requests for more than 200.

Admission is free, but reservations are required and space is limited. Interested persons can make reservations by calling 330-744-1111.

Wenger, along with attorneys J. Bradley Allison and Christopher J. Baronzzi, will be speaking at the seminars. More than 300 people, Monday, attended a town hall meeting in Lisbon regarding Marcellus Shale.

Marcellus Shale is the name of a large underground formation that begins in New York and stretches across four states, including ten counties in Eastern Ohio. That formation is believed to contain enough natural gas to supply the east coast for the next 50 years.

But to get to that gas, companies must drill, which means acquiring mineral rights from landowners through leasing. Many residents are concerned about the effects of drilling.

Attorneys at Monday's meeting, as well as those who represent HHM, say no landowner should sign a lease form without being sure of what they're signing. They also recommend consulting a lawyer.
