As those accused of trying to derail Mahoning County's purchase of Oakhill Renaissance Place are facing criminal charges, the costs associated with that piece of county property continue to mount.
The county's building commission, which oversees Oakhill's maintenance and renovations, Thursday voted to hire a firm to make repairs to a portion of the facility's air conditioning system. The price is expected to reach between $2.5 and $3 million.
Commissioner John McNally said that amount is in addition to a $2.5 million project to repair the building's heating system. McNally, along with several other current and former office holder, was indicted last month for allegedly conspiring to stop the purchase of Oakhill.
Those facing charges say their opposition was based on what they saw as Oakhill's unaffordable expenses.
