Lawyers for some of the defendants in the Oakhill purchasing case have been accusing Mahoning County's prosecutor of misconduct.

Now they're asking a judge to help them gather evidence of it.

In a more than 200-page filing, lawyers for Anthony and Flora Cafaro and their companies said they want information from prosecutors and investigators in the Oakhill case to support their request for a dismissal of charges.

The lawyers claim Prosecutor Paul Gains and his staff mounted a case against the defendants that was "motivated by political vengeance, hatred and ill will" because the Cafaros and a number of office holders had opposed the county's purchase of Oakhill back in 2006.

Gains had no comment Monday on that new filing.
