Local politicians said they are pleased with the progress made between Forum Health and Ardent Health Services and they strongly support the move.
Forum filed a motion Thursday in bankruptcy court asking the judge to approve a sale to Ardent Health Services of Tennessee.
Congressman Tim Ryan said that Ardent has a reputation in the health care industry of buying failing hospitals. The company then makes the needed improvements for them to become profitable again, he said.
In a prepared statement, Ryan (D-Niles) stated that "Ardent's pledge to invest millions of dollars on renovations, new equipment and other upgrades to enhance service shows their commitment to this community and to the continued provision of high quality health care to our residents."
"I strongly support the sale of Forum Health's assets to Ardent Health Services," Ryan added. "Today's filing represents the culmination of many months of collaboration and sacrifice to ensure a more stable and secure future for the thousands of hardworking men and women employed by the Forum Health system."
Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams said the proposal required effort and sacrifice from everyone concerned. He added that it's critical that the Valley have Forum Health and Northside hospital continue to provide health care.
"The unions and the employees have stepped up, members of the management team at Forum Health have stepped up, certainly those in the community have offered their support," Williams said. "...While there's still some steps that have to be taken, this is great news for the Valley."
According to the filing, Ardent has submitted a bid to buy the hospital system for almost $70 million. It also includes the sale of all parts of the hospital system.
